Star Wars: Squadron on PS5, Xbox Series X not available

Star Wars: Squadrons tease reveals EA Motive's next game | VentureBeat
Star Wars: Squadrons will not be released on next generation consoles, but hopefully can still be played with backward compatibility.

Star Wars: Squadron is only a few months away from its release date in October, when players can finally form their own team and go to Empire or Rebellion. Since there are also no next-generation consoles, the development team behind the squadrons addressed whether the players could take their Star Wars game to the console with them.

Star Wars: Squadron is a flight-simulator style game that immerses players in the aerial space battles of the Star Wars franchise. Players can choose from different ships from the Rebel and Empire Fleet and compete in dogfight style battles at a rate of five per team. Star Wars: Squadron has depth customization options, allowing players to load their ships with different styles and abilities.

So far, Star Wars: Squadron has only been announced for PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms, but many players are wondering if the game will be accessible on the next gen hardware when it is released in 2020. Squadron's creative director, Ian Frazier, revealed that there are no plans to release the game separately for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, but he hopes the game will lag behind with the new consoles.

This means that players will be able to purchase the game when it is released for the current console and will be able to play it if they purchase one of the next consoles. The backward compatibility so far has been somewhat vague, with Sony and Microsoft giving little clarity on how the new console will work. For example, the PS5 is expected to have 'backward compatibility' with most PS4 games, but it has not been announced how the games will be determined or whether the backward compatibility will extend to previous generation games.

Star Wars: Squadron seems to be able to add itself to the lineup of games that will also be available for the next generation of consoles. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on current and new consoles with a free upgrade to the next generation for buyers on the PS4 or Xbox One.

Star Wars: Squadron features crossplay on all platforms. This is good news for players as the range of gaming platforms continues to be diverse, which means that squads cannot create anything the player chooses. Star Wars: Squadron is also available for PS4 players on VR.
